Brian has "great natural ability,
vision and superb dedication to Art."
-Laci de Gerenday, former president of the National Sculpture Society and a faculty member at the Lyme Academy of Fine Art.
Trained at the prestigious Lyme Academy of Fine Art, Brian learned the art and importance of time-honored techniques. In his early pieces, he adhered to these classical techniques and ideals. However, his personal style is slowly departing from strict anatomical rendering, developing into his own stylized forms.
His venture to sculpting in new material has influenced this development. Carving in stone- a subtractive process- has inspired Brian to incorporate his intricate knowledge of human anatomy to reveal the images he sees in the stone. Brian is not abandoning his classical training, just utilizing it towards his personal style. He explains, "gaining skills is like learning a language, but once you've learned the language you have to say something... and there's always something new to say….there are always other languages."
